Samajwadi Party came into existence on October 4, 1992 in Lucknow under the leadership of Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav. The party gives immense importance to the development of common man and thus adopted the vehicle of the common man – a bicycle as its symbol.
In these two decades, Samajwadi Party has come to power in Uttar Pradesh twice (Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav had been the Chief Minister once before the party was formed) and has tried to bring development and prosperity in the state. The party under the leadership of Shri Mulayam Signh Yadav formed the government in Uttar Pradesh in 1993 and then again in 2003.

Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav:
He first became an MLA in the UP assembly in 1967 and was jailed during the Emergency in 1975. He formed the Samajwadi Party in October, 1992, based on the socialist principles of India's great leader Shri Ram Manohar Lohia. Netaji was appointed India's Defense Minister in 1996 due to his clear thinking on India's emerging role in international politics and great leadership qualities.
Akhilesh Yadav is the current and the 20th Chief Minister of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, in office since 15th of March 2012. He is the youngest person to have held this office in the state of Uttar Pradesh at the age of 38 years. He came to the political front for the first time when he was elected as a member of the Lok Sabha in Kannauj in 2000.
The emphasis, as claimed by the government is on poverty alleviation, providing financial aid to girls and farmers, employment opportunities for youth masses and attracting huge investments for the state.
Akhilesh Yadav’s Clean UP, Green UP initiative earned a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records. Within eight hours, 10 lakh saplings were planted in a single day on November 7, 2015 across 10 localities within the state. The new record outdid the previous one which marked the plantation of 8 lakh 50 thousand trees in a single day.
The Uttar Pradesh government has organised the Investors’ Conclave to engage with top global and Indian investors from across several sectors with an aim to attract private sector investments and create jobs in the state.
The state government has signed some initial agreements with corporates entailing investments worth Rs 54,606 crores.
Wooing investors, the CM said, “Uttar Pradesh is a land of great rivers, it’s a fertile land. The state has investment opportunities in many sectors; further, laptops have reached in every village of the state.”
Stating that education was priority for his government, the Samajwadi Party leader assured that Uttar Pradesh will be the biggest destination for colleges and universities in the future.
